I am a child

I am all the things of my past:

-My mother's looks and my dad's legs

I am all I hear:

-My brother screaming at me because I annoyed him

-My mum and dad cooking a colourful, beautiful meal together

I am all I hear:

-Friends laughing while I tell a joke.

-My teacher teaching me new things very day

I am all I feel:

-Friendship and love in my family

I am all I taste:

-An mouth watering smoothy dripping the last

drop into my mouth while I walk to the sink

I am all I remember;

-The first time I was in intermediate school and meet some new friends

-The first time I hugged my bunny Charlie

-Taught how ton use a rip-stick

I am all these things,

Secret deep down inside me.

I am a caterpillar and all these things are my cocoon.

But, one day, I will emerge and break free

and become a woman of the world.

Speech 2014

Why kids need to imagine more..

Can you just taste that double scoop of ice cream with dripping hot fudge all over it. I can!

If you can't then where has your imagination gone.

Todays children re spending too much time on their devices much as ipods, ipads,

play station, computer and even TV. These are addictive devises which you would never want

to come off. Wheres all the fun spending hours in front of a computer screen that can affect your

emotional, metal and physical wellbeing. Instead of letting your imagination run wild.

Imagine you and your friend playing on a beach splashing bare footed in the bright, blue water.

Pretending to be a mermaid or knight preparing to fight a big black dragon.

Children are losing the ability to imagine and this will affect their future.

93% of teens (12-17) go online. 97% (12-17) play computer games, surf the net, play portable

and console games.

Have you ever heard your grandparents and parent's say to you "back in my day,

there were children playing everywhere on the streets." Have you look on the streets lately.

It's like a ghost town. Only some children in New Zealand know how to imagine,

which is ashamed as this will affect the future of the ones who are always on technology.

Albert Einstein, one of the most famous Scientists started,

"Imagination is more important than knowledge.

Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."

Kids need to start developing imagination now, even if it's playing outside for 5 minutes

or if means you have to drag your friends outside to get muddy, make daisy chains,

climb a tree or play tag. In that time you will learn to develop confidence, problem solving skills,

friendship skills, communication and most importantly imagination!

If kids don't start imagining now, who's knows whats going to happen in the future.

Imagination might just start fading away. There will be no more santa, tooth fairy,

Easter bunny and then whats going to start happening to our dreams of the future.

We will have nothing to imagine because we won't know how to use it!

So if you are on your ipod playing flappy bird.

Just remember what's important flappy bird or imagination!

There is a shark inside of me... eating machine stomach... swimming rapidly towards the buffet... ripping away the flesh of scaly fish... - I keep this shark because the wilderness gave it to me and the wilderness will not let it go.
